Mini Square Prints: Creating Big Art with Tiny Tiles

The Mini Square (2" x 2" or 5 x 5 cm) is the smallest standard format in the retro printing world. While it fits perfectly in a pocket, its true power lies in numbers. Think of these tiny prints not just as individual photos, but as "pixels" or "tiles" that you can assemble to create something much larger.

Whether you are looking to turn your Instagram feed into physical fridge magnets or create a massive wall mosaic, the Mini Square is the ultimate building block for creative DIY projects.

How to Create a Photo Mosaic

Want to build a wall feature? Here is the recipe for success.

1. Curate by Color

Select photos that share a similar color palette (e.g., all sunsets, all beach blues, or black & white).

2. The Layout

Lay your photos out on the floor first. Determine the shape (Square grid? Heart? Random cloud?).

3. The Adhesive

Use removable mounting putty or Washi Tape loops. Do not use superglue or nails!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the exact size of a Mini Square?
The Mini Square print measures exactly 2 inches by 2 inches (5cm x 5cm). This includes the image area (borderless) or the image plus a small white border, depending on your printing preference.
Are these the same as Instax Square?
No. Instax Square film is larger (2.8" x 3.4" total size). The Polabora Mini Square is a custom cut format designed specifically for crafting, scrapbooking, and mosaic layouts.
How many pixels do I need for a 2x2 print?
Since the print is small, you don't need massive resolution. A standard Instagram photo (1080 x 1080 pixels) is perfect. Even slightly lower resolution images often look great because the small print size hides imperfections.
What is the best way to stick them to a wall?
For a grid layout, we recommend blue tack (poster putty) or double-sided removable tape. If you want the tape to be visible and decorative, use colorful Washi tape on the corners.
